As Amane Fujimoto steps down from the role of Japan Advisor as of 31 March 2025, the International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN) would like to acknowledge our appreciation of his work and thank him for his contribution to the organisation and to corporate governance, over many years.
Amane has worked with ICGN to help develop and promote the network’s activities in Japan, using his knowledge and experience of corporate governance in this market. This has included supporting our extensive public policy advocacy on corporate governance reforms in Japan, events such as the Annual Virtual Japan Forum and ICGN 30th Anniversary Conference – Asia, and education activities including our Excellence in Corporate Governance programme, designed for the Japanese market.
In addition to a very successful 30th Anniversary Conference held in Tokyo in March 2025, highlights of Amane’s work with ICGN include facilitation of a meeting with Prime Minister Kishida in April 2024, the attendance of ICGN’s CEO at the G7 High Level Corporate Governance Roundtable held in Niigata, Japan in April 2023 and the launch of the ICGN Japan Governance Priorities in October 2022.
Principal at Governance & Stewardship Advisors, Amane previously worked as Head of Corporate Value Consulting of Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank and engaged in corporate governance consulting to major Japanese companies for 15 years. During his time as Expert Officer of Corporate Accounting & Disclosure Division at the Japan Financial Services Agency (FSA), Amane’s work included the formulation and revision of the Japan Corporate Governance Code, as well as revision of the Stewardship Code. We wish Fujimoto-san great success in the future and thank him for all his input, support and hard work over the past years at ICGN.
ICGN’s commitment to our ongoing work to advance high standards of corporate governance and investor stewardship in Japan continues, including CEO Jen Sisson’s membership of the Japan FSA’s Council of Experts. We have recently commented on issues including sustainability-related financial disclosures, cross-shareholding disclosures and Asset Owner Principles, and will shortly be responding to the public consultation on draft revisions to the Japan Stewardship Code.
ICGN focuses our networking, education and policy impact on material governance issues, advocating for high standards in corporate governance and stewardship. As part of this, we also continue to run the popular Excellence in Corporate Governance course, designed for the Japanese market, which focuses on best practice in corporate governance.
